Wes Irwin,  1897 - 1977

Wesley F. Irwin was born in Los Angeles, California, and moved to Alberta in 1900, where his family homesteaded in the Lacombe area. Wes taught school in Lacombe before being called to fight in the First World War. 

Between 1935 and 1964, Irwin taught art at Western Canada High School in Calgary. He studied in Chicago for a year and completed his MA at Columbia University in 1944. He was an active member of the Alberta Society of Artists, which he helped found in 1931.
